The town lies in the west of the historic Masuria region on the Drweca river, a right tributary of the Vistula. Lake Drweca west of the town is part of the Masurian Lake District. Ostroda has become a growing tourist site owing to its relaxing natural surroundings.

Situated in the ilawa Lakeland and by Lake Drweckie, it is considered an ideal summer holiday destination for water sport enthusiasts and keen anglers.
